When we think of sports, we all think that men are athletic, and women are not. Well, that is nottrue anymore. These days in sports, women try to get more involved in any type of sportwhatsoever. It all started with a female referee in an NFL game. That made an impact in historyand has changed society forever. With every sport trying to copy what the NFL did has made itimpossible to do. For example, “the 49ers hiring a female conditioning coach”, when that madethe news, I was shocked. Based off that scenario, I knew that not only is the sport worldchanging but society is too. When I saw an ad on TV about the 49ers hiring a female coach, Iwas happy. I knew there was hope that the NFL would have acted to making gender equal. Bymaking gender equal means having both men and women be part of a society, in sports, likefootball to start out with. I believed that other sports would follow the footsteps of what the NFLdid and that is what they did. Though seeing what football did made basketball do the samething, but differently and I liked it a lot. When basketball was just for men, women decided tocreate a female version of basketball, WNBA. The hope for the WNBA to start was just thestarting line of women in sports. While sports were just there to entertain us, society changed andthe hope that women wanted to be part of men’s sport and with basketball creating a wholeleague of their own for women made life easier for them and I liked it. The hope that I waslooking for with gender equality in sports came to life. Women and men had smiles on their facesduring and after any games, competition, and even a press conference. That is the hope that I waslooking for and that was not the end of gender equality in sports. While women and men werebeing treated equally in sports, like in football and especially basketball, soccer wanted to jointhe party but decided not to. The women were not on TV that much compared to men and thatfrustrated the hell out of me. However, when it came to the World Cup, it was a different story. Iknew and my hope for women to be treated equally as men came true. Seeing how society
