Purpose: To determine the densities of an unknown liquid and solid using the following procedures: Procedure for solution: 1. Clean glassware with distilled water 2. Measure 10.0 mL of solution using a pipette 3. Take mass of clean beaker on electronic balance and tare it 4. Put 10.0 mL of solution in beaker from step 3 and place on electronic balance to get the mass of solution and record Procedure for solid: 1. Clean glassware with distilled water 2. Pipette 10.0 mL of H 2 0 into a graduated cylinder 3. Take mass of graduated cylinder with 10.0 mL of H 2 0 and tare it 4. Place solid gently in the graduated cylinder and measure the new mass and record 5. Read the new volume of the solution from the graduated cylinder and record change in volume Results and Discussion: The first step was to test the efficacy of the procedure for determining density of a liquid through testing it on a liquid of known density, water.
