Education 213 Final Reflection Paper I have learned many things about the teaching profession thus far through my education at St. Ben’s. The most important thing I have learned is about the diversity of students and the different experiences they have based on their backgrounds. I have learned about diversity through classes such as Education 111 and through working with programs like the Fast Forward Youth Program. The Diversity Clinical I participated in over spring break at Park Center High School added to my knowledge and experience working with diverse student backgrounds. Students of different backgrounds learn in different ways and may have significantly different experiences from one another. This is an important aspect of teaching that every educator needs to remember. In Education 111 I learned about diversity through reading the book, A White Teacher Talks about Race, by Julie Landsman. In this book, Landsman tries to understand the experiences of her students of a different race by observing them in school and listening to stories about their life experiences. Learning about the experiences of students of different races allows one to understand them more. Once a teacher understands where their students are coming from, he or she will be able to teach students of a different race much more effectively. Throughout Education 111 I learned about the different types of students I will encounter,
