Bobby Bardin II 11/28/07 Chemistry experiment 10 Electrochemistry Laboratory Purpose: The purpose of this lab was to determine the voltage produced by a battery with different metals connected to it and see the difference when the metals switched wires (black or red). Also, it was to be determined whether oxidation or reduction was occurring in the anode or in the cathode in each instance, and which side was the anode or the cathode. All of these components were to help determine the standard electrode potentials of Zn, Mg, and Fe and also their equilibrium constants. For part B, the purpose was to determine the voltage produced by a lead-acid battery by using a voltmeter with different metals in different solutions and observe what physical and chemical changes occurred.
