David De Wit Professor Vanden Bosch Comm 250 March 8, 2008 Psycho Do you ever get the feeling that you're being watched? Have you had that strange suspicion that someone is following you? We've all had this paranoia before, and its this fear that we all have had that Alfred Hitchcock takes advantage of. His brilliant ability to play with our fears and to keep us guessing about what could possibly happen next is what makes this one of the greatest thriller movies of all time. The film starts out showing us a Marion Crane and Sam Loomis together in a hotel room. Sam is still technically married to his wife, although they are going through a divorce, so the couple must keep their love a secret. Later that day, Marion is put into a situation where she is entrusted with $40,000 dollars. Seeing that this is a once in a lifetime chance at money like this, Marion steals the $40,000 from her boss and leaves town. We see Marion in a series of close calls with a curious police man who knows that Marion is hiding something. Marion makes her way to the Bates Motel in a terrible rain storm and decides that this would be a good place to stay for the night. The Bates Motel is located on the old highway and has been by-passed by the new highway, so nobody stays there anymore. Norman Bates, the owner of the Bates Motel, takes quite a liking to Marion, and the two seem to get along quite well. Marion expresses that she is
