2 ANALYSIS OF EDITH Analysis of Edith Introduction The short story is about two young people who are in age of getting married. Additionally, they are engaged. However, the lady, Edith believes that a man who deserves her must prove that is worth it. When the American- Spanish comes about, she feels that it is time for the man to prove. Despite the risks that are involved, she pushes George to enlist in the war if he is interested in her. Although he dislikes war and its repercussions, he has no choice but to enlist. To put more pressure on him, she gives him back the engagement ring to prove how serious she is. Analysis The author of the story had to travel to Europe at some time during his life. While he was in Europe, he studied several languages including French and Italian. He had an interest in literature in these languages. He was later to explain that all the time, he was studying the literature in the foreign languages looking for human life. It is said that this is where he went to university. He
