Iran hostage crisis all points Reagan campaign exploited - Reagan: America suffered from “Vietnam Syndrome,” meaning they (& esp. Carter) let guilt from Vietnam stop them from defending US interests o Reagan praised Vietnam war as “noble cause,” implied that it could have been won w/ enough patience - pledged to support anti-communist movements around the world - academics dismissed or feared Reagan, who knew little about foreign policy o “it’s true that hard work never killed anybody, but I figure ‘why take the chance?’” – Reagan on fact nobody remembered him ever reading a book - Reagan’s Three Pillars:
