Malia ClarkIB Lang/Lit 12Stewart, p. 29/23/16Game Review: Candy Crush Soda As a spin-off of Candy Crush, the hit mobile game, its “sodalicious” counterpart, Candy Crush Soda, brings a fresh whirl of colors, explosions, and gameplay dynamics to a sensational match-three puzzle mobile game that will excite mobile gamers of all ages and types. King, the maker of the the original Candy Crush, really outdoes itself with Candy Crush Soda, which was released in May 2014. Candy Crush Soda has the same fluffy gameplay as Candy Crush, where you create at least three in a row matches of colored “candies” and pass objectives in a certain number of moves to progress to the next level. However, in addition to the AoE (area-of-effect) mechanics, which include the striped candies that destroys rows and columns, as well as the wrapped candy bombs, Candy Crush Soda also incorporates fish candies produced through a 4-square match. When the fish is activated, it swims to a random spot on the board and destroys what’s there. Another powerful mechanic is a colored paint-bubble type candy produced through a five in a row plus a vertical three in a row - like a cross. When matched to any color, this bubble mechanic pops, releasing bubbles of paint out to “paint” a majority of the board in that color. It can be especially satisfying to match this candy to another power candy. Just watch the board, as you know it, explode is a majestic display of light!
