Unformatted text preview: Where Did Chico State Football Go? And will it Ever be Back? When I first came to Chico State in August of 2006 I found myself asking the question, “What happened to the Chico State football team?” So I asked a few older students what the reason was for the football programs termination and I received the same answer from all of them, which was Title IX. It was not necessarily Title IX’s fault, but all of these students believed the Chico State football program was cancelled due to Title IX. Throughout the coarse of the school year I have started to hear more and more about the topic, but I still didn’t know exactly what the law was about. In this paper I plan to explain what exactly happened to football at Chico state and also explain Title IX and why most people seem to think it is to blame for the programs cancellation. My target audience for this paper is the students and faculty of Chico State, people who live in the city of Chico, or anyone interested in finding out the real reasons for Chico State not having a football team. In spring of 1997 the Chico State football program was terminated after a successful season where they won the North Coast Athletic Conference.
