Class 5 EXSC 205 Notes: o Drugs cont o Amphetamines-mimic epinephrine(adreneline) May decrease perceptions of pain or fatigue Rampant in football-first people to abuse drug No proven ergogenic benefits o Narcotics Cocaine, marijuana, No evidence for ergogenic benefits Cocaine is ergolytic (reduces performance)-causes a dramatic decrease in glycogen Last of the highest abused drugs o Sodium Bicarbonate-baking soda—alkaline-only anaerobic exercise Anaerobic exercise builds lactic acid which cause cell Ph to go down Starts at 7, once it goes down to 6.2-6.3 fatigue sets in This acts as an alkaline booster and boosts Ph up to 7.5 Tests have proven benefits-ex. 400m sprint reduced 1-2 sec/800m sprint reduced 2-3 sec Need about 300 mg/kg body weight less than 90 min Negatives: Can cause stomach problems, not everyone gets benefits GI (gastronal intestinal) Not banned at any levels o Creatine Monohydrate 4-5 g – 4-5 x/day for 2 weeks
