Magazines (March 12, 2008) 14:53 Magazines have to broker to the newsstands in order to get their magazines sold WHAT IS A MAGAZINE? It’s an Arabic word, that was first used by the British and would publish literary  works, government edicts, etc. Benjamin Franklin was the founder of the second magazine to be made (it didn’t  last very long) The first one was published by the Bradford family  Magazines weren’t popular in America for a while because the population density  was not very great (as opposed to over in England) Even early on, magazines reflected culture and the politics of their time Magazines often competed with newspapers in the early days of their publishing By around 1800, magazines began to have a more regional customer base 1821 saw the beginning of the Saturday Evening Post Many of the writers of classics got their start  in magazines (i.e. Mark Twain,
