I would be happy to share the knowledge I have about the management positions within thelifespan management industry and some other useful information to help you decide if it is theright field for you.A lifespan management organizations administration is made up of senior employees thathave various responsibilities depending on the type of facility they are employed at.A personholding an administration position may be responsible for managing everyday operations,managing finances and budgets, assuring that the facility operates in accordance with all federal,state, and company policies, rules, and regulations, and finding ways to efficiently achieve thegoals of the organization.There are two different managerial categories in the lifespan management industry,clinical and non-clinical.First, I will give you some information about the non-clinicalmanagement positions available.The non-clinical management positions can consist of anadministrator or chief executive officer (CEO), an assistant administrator, a director of marketingor chief financial officer, a dietary manager, a housekeeping manager, an activity director, adirector of rehabilitation, and a director of social services. People in these positions can work atone facility or they may oversee multiple facilities from a remote location such as a corporateoffice.Each of these managerial positions comes with department specific roles andresponsibilities.One of the most important management positions within the lifespan management field isan administrator or CEO. Administrator positions can be found at skilled nursing facilities or
3nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and continuum of care facilities. The role of anadministrator usually involves following federal, state, local, and facility guidelines and policiesto effectively manage the daily functions and activities that take place within the facility toensure that residents receive the best possible care.Administrators are responsible foroverseeing all facility employees, managing the budget, and working with the facility’sdesignated physician.Administrators must be capable of developing professional relationshipsand must be able to represent the facility to the public while at work and at professional andcommunity activities (Long Term Care Professional Leadership Council, n.d.). Anyoneemployed as an administrator is usually required to complete continued education programs(Long Term Care Professional Leadership Council, n.d.).In the United States administrators ofany skilled nursing facility are required to be licensed. Administrator licensure requirements atassisted living facilities are specific to the state they are located in.
