Student 1 Student English 1304 Mr. Reiter January 31, 2007 Are Women Really Reaching Their Full Potential? It is amazing to think that each person existing on earth today was once a tiny baby inside his or her mother’s womb. Everyone has had a mother who carried them through the critical stages of their development from a fertilized egg to a fetus. Ironically, though, some of those tiny babies have grown up to be childless women, choosing a lifestyle opposite to what even allowed them to exist. In her article, “The Childless Revolution,” Madelyn Cain argues that the growing trend of childless women needs to be recognized as a positive change for women, but I believe women are denying themselves an essential need by actively choosing not to have children. According to Madelyn Cain, more and more women today are choosing not to have children and for good reasons too. Many factors have contributed to this growth, including legalized abortion, and women choose not to have children for various reasons, including unburdening the world of more children. She comments on how childless women are negatively judged by society as stereotypically selfish, career-focused women
