WSU ART 110: EXPERIENCING ART FALL 2006 SKETCHBOOK ASSIGNMENT #3 EXPERIMENTS IN COMPOSITION (Minimum of 2 Hours) 3.1) Begin by laying out 4 squares (approximately 4 x 4 inches each) on a single page of your sketchbook. Then, within each square create a pattern by drawing and overlapping several simple shapes. You may trace the outlines of objects or do the drawings freehand. 3.2) Next, select one of the patterns and create a radial or spiral design from it. 3.3) Finally, create an asymmetric design based upon the same pattern. The final design may be horizontal or vertical. Manipulate line, shape, value, texture, and color to achieve a dynamic balance through repetition , rhythm , contrast and elaboration . Remember, no matter what the quality of your work, you must do all parts of the assignment, spend at least 2 hours total , and have each drawing properly marked, in order to get all the points. Assignments that lack documentation will not be accepted. Assignments where the documentation is incomplete will have points deducted. There is a PowerPoint on Blackboard with examples to guide you. You may not copy these. Your patterns and designs must be your own. If you wish to try, most or all of this assignment can be done on the computer, but, as the examples on Blackboard demonstrate, it is also very possible to do every part freehand....
