Thick Lens: Propagation from Right-to-Left The diagram of a Nikon Nikkor-H f/2 lens is shown below. An object is placed to the right of the lens. Light propagates from the object right-to-left through the lens. Note that the lens is a retrofocus lens (principal planes are reversed). All dimensions given are in mm . It is desired to form a real image of the object such that the image is a specified size relative to the object (measured transverse to the axis of the optical system). The relative sizes are given below. For each case, calculate, showing all work, the distance of the object from the right-most glass surface. This is refered to as the “working distance.” For each case, calculate, showing all work, the distance of the image from the left-most glass surface. Express your answers in mm accurately to within ± 0 . 1 mm . Put your answers in the spaces provided.
