Paul Robison Host: Rodny Dixon Reading Report #1 Place: Cooper's cafe English 226 Date/time: february, 5 th , 2008 from 6-9 2/20/08 “Say word, say word, say word ...” The breathy words rolled out to the audience as “October” Dixon began the Pan-African Student Union's first open mic celebrating February as Black History Month . Mr . Dixon was the only reader for a while, but during the last two hours, more and more people came by and decided to read . Quite a few people read other people's poems, there was a Robert Frost and two or three by Rudyard Kipling . As for October's poems, the seemed to be mostly memorized, which I thought was awesome . We, the audience, never got to really hear what inspiration October had for his work, but the points he was trying to make came across very well . For a few of his works, he asked two girls to sing behind him as he read a new poem that he wrote for the open mic . A lot of October's poems were untitled, but the contemplation behind each one we astounding .
