Unformatted text preview: Imaging of Multiple Objects A thin lens is in air as shown in the figure. The magnitude of the radius of cur— vature of the left surface is 200 mm. The center of curvature of the left surface is to the right of the surface. The magnitude radius of curvature of the right surface is 200 mm. The center of curvature of the right surface is to the left of the surface. The refractive index of the lens is 1.500. Three point objects (numbered 1, 2, and 3 in the figure) exist to the left of the lens. Calculate, showing all work, the location of the image of each object along the op- tical axis to the left or to the right of the lens for each of the three point objects. Cal- culate, showing all work, the location of the image point above or below the optical axis for each of the three cases. Express your answers in mm accurately to four significant figures. For the image distance, indicate whether it is left or right of the lens. For the image point, indicate whether it is above or below the optical axis. On the figure, for each of the three cases, prepare a ray trace diagram that incor— porates 1) the parallel ray and 2) the focal ray. For clarity, do not include the chief ray. The distance between tick marks is 100 mm.
