Concave Refractive Surface - High Index to Low Index A spherical concave refractive surface exists between glass and air as shown in the attached Fgure. The radius of curvature of the refractive surface is 50 mm . The refrac- tive index of the glass in the left-hand region (Region 1) is 1 . 500. The refractive index of the air in the right-hand region (Region 2) is 1 . 000. Light propagates from left to right through this refractive surface. An optical system (not shown) to the left of the concave refractive surface produces an image. In the absence of the concave refractive surface, the image is formed at the location of the dashed line in the Fgure. The image location is 100 . 0 mm to the right of the location of the concave surface. However, this is the image location in the glass before the concave surface is added. The spacing between tick marks is 50 mm . Calculate, showing all work, the location of the image along the optical axis to the left or to the right of the concave refractive surface.
