Thin Lens: Object and Image Distances for a Given MagniFcation A thin lens in air is used for imaging. The radius of curvature of the left surface is +50 mm . The positive sign indicates that the light incident from the left encounters a convex surface. The radius of curvature of the right surface is - 50 mm . The negative sign indicates that the light incident from the left encounters a concave surface. The re- fractive index of the lens is 1 . 500. It is desired to form a series of images of a vertical planar object that exists to the left of the lens. The object is to be imaged sequentially at Fve different linear mag- niFcations as given below. Calculate, showing all work, the locations of the object and image along the axis of the optical system to the left or to the right of the lens for each of the Fve cases. Express your answers in mm . ±or the image distance, indicate whether it is left or right of the lens. On the attached sheet, for each of the Fve cases, prepare a ray trace diagram that
