Gordon Tong 4/10/07 CAT 3 – Ryan Emergency Kit My emergency kit is prepared for any disaster which will prevent me from accessing the basic services of the city and campus and will allow me to live for at least three days. The basic essentials are included, such as food and water. The food I brought has long shelf lives, thus enabling me to keep them for long periods of time without having to replace them often. MREs are in my kit because they are full of food and utensils. However, they are not as lightweight as other foods, so I did not pack as much. A knife is also included for the purpose of any cutting needed for the food. As for water, I did not want to pack gallons of water because it would decrease the portability and add to the weight. But seeing as how water is absolutely essential, I put one gallon of water in, and put some water purification pills in my kit. They are much lighter, but require a source of water nearby. Thus, it becomes riskier if I cannot find water nearby, but there is
