April 7 th Sensation seeking – look at scale on blackboard about it 1) Low in sensation seeking – not trying to do something different 2) High- change what you do every time Affect Intensity 1) Experience emotions more then others if high 2) More intense emotions Control issues – personality trait – desire for control 1) Perceived control – think you have control over something where you really don’t a. More fluctuation b. High – harder goals, higher effort, do things that make them more successful i. See things as obstacles that can be conquered c. Low – spend time worrying i. More learned helplessness ii.Set self up to fail 2) Desire for control a. Want to have control over the situations b. Seek control and attempt to maintain control in the situation c. Take on leadership roles d. Are overly prepared in the situation e. Respond quickly to questions and other problems f. Talk loudly and rapidly g. Effects i. Can be helpful if they are prepared for stuff ii.Select hard tasks
