Agenda setting notes House Hearing march 15 th -17 th 1983 “The draft being discussed is a result of a series of oversight hearings held around the country during the 97 th congress and reflects information and recommendations to the subcommittee by over 200 witnesses” (Simon, 109) March 15 th 1.) Opening Statement – Talk about title IV – give more services to American Indian Tribes 1.) “Although Federal help in funding public libraries has been available for 26 years, America’s Indian population has never received any of it benefits.” (Simon, 1). 2.) The Indian population doesn’t have its own libraries and no access to them 3.) Letters were sent by the Native Americans 4.) Indians do not have this network of education 5.) Panel of Indians came and asked for help in this matter 6.) Provided a research paper to prove the need for federal money (house hearing pg 10-25) Richard G Heyser (manager of library and information services branch) & Lotsee Smith (Associate professor at school of library science)
