Power is held by few a. Few who rule and many who follow 2.) Old Money a. Boo New Money i. Must be socialized into elite if you become wealthy b. Common socialization experience c. Members of the social elite d. Private schools e. Thinking alike f. Common values i. Ideas about free market capitalism ii. Overwhelming agreement on the fundamental values g. Pass down not just wealth but a set of values as well 3.) Power is static and is possessed over time 4.) Maintain the status quo a. This is where they got their power so they want to keep it that way 5.) Masses giver power to the elites because they are apathetic and ill informed 6.) Elections are really just symbolic a. Doesn’t matter who wins they are all the same 7.) Public Policy = Elite preference Pluralism – must understand groups to understand politics
