Unformatted text preview: Writing Assignment #3 In her essay Boys Will Be Boys and Girls Will Not, Mariah Burton Nelson discusses the question about whether or not women will eventually outperform men- specifically in the sport of running. She tries to convince the readers that women are indeed better at sports in general than men; it just depends on what sports one looks at. She talks about the non-contact sports where professional women and professional men can compete on the same playing field; sports like “auto racing, horse racing, dog sled racing, equestrian events, rifle shooting, and marathon swimming…tennis, golf, racquetball, bowling, [and] skiing” (145). Nelson goes as far as to give specific examples of women in history that have outperformed men and set world records- even when competing against men directly. Women such as Helen Klein, Penny Dean, and Lynne Cox are record breakers; they have set an amazing example for girls across the world who might not believe that they can be better than men at sports, and they have set the bar extremely high for...
