November 26, 2007 Stressors. o Include drug problems and alcohol problems. If you drink while you are pregnant it results in mental retardation, growth deficiency, facial abnormalities and other central nervous system problems. o Can trigger dysfunctional behavior. Criteria for depressive episode. o Depressed mood for most of the day. o Diminished interest or pleasure in almost all activities. o Significant weight loss or gain. o Insomnia or Hypersomnia. o Psychomotor agitation or retardation nearly every day. o Fatigue or loss of energy nearly everyday. o Feelings of worthlessness or inappropriate guilt. o Diminished ability to concentrate or indecisiveness. o Recurrent thoughts of death. Symptoms of Mania. o Extreme up’s and down’s in depression and highs. o High risk of committing suicide. Schizophrenia. o Not common but most severe disorder. o Best understood disorder. o
