Marc Pottey 1. Access Hole- a hole through a bulkhead or deck allowing one to reach work or gear 2. Ad valorem cargo- Latin term for cargo according to value 3. Advance (maneuvering characteristic)- the measure of the distance traveled from when the rudder is put over and until it steadies on its new course 4. Afterpeak- a compartment just forward of the stern post usually almost completely below the waterline 5. Afterperpendicular- a vertical line at right anglesto the base line 6. Air hole- a hole for air to pass through such as in ventilation 7. Air port- a opening in the ship for ventilation usually with glass hinged over it to allow light in 8. Angle Clip- a piece of angle iron used to fasten part of the ship’s structure to another 9. Anneal- to toughen metal by heating or cooling it 10. Appendages- small pieces of the hull extending from the main hull in to the water such as struts, propellers and keels 11. Aperture- A recess in which the propeller is located 12. Assemble- to put parts in to place or collect
