TO: Bob F.A.C. Wilson FROM: SECTION: 8981 DATE: 8-30-05 Observation paper #1 SOURCE: Cable Firms Don't Have to Share Networks, Court Rules Yuki Noguchi http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp- dyn/content/article/2005/06/27/AR2005062700415.html FACT PRESENTED IN THE ARTICLE The United States Supreme Court has issued a major decision regarding the ability of cable television companies competition from using there cables lines and networks. This decision stifles innovation in the industry by allowing the cable carriers to be the sole service carrier. The “common carrier” rule that affects the telecommunication industry where the owner had to provide open access to any network does not pertain to the cable industry under the idea that they are using a “data transmission” network. “Data transmission” networks do not follow the same rules as the telecommunication industry even though there is telecommunication happening over the data network.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
