September 4, 2007 NBA 666 Outside Negotiation Finding an item that I would not normally negotiate for proved to be a harder task that I had anticipated. However, as time went on I realized that the motorcycle that I had recently acquired through Ebay but had yet to pay for would be an excellent candidate for this assignment. Ordinarily buyers on Ebay do not negotiate on the terms or price of an item after they have won the auction. I thought I would give it a try and so sent him a message asking him to call me to arrange the pickup of the item. He called me the next day while I was at the New York State Fair in Syracuse. First we arranged the time and date of the pickup. Next I posed a series of questions regarding the performance of the motorcycle and tried to seem as displeased as

Unformatted text preview: possible with his answers. Then we talked about the free helmet that came with the item since I had purchased the bike through the Buy-it-now option. He told me that the visor on the helmet was broken, giving me instant power to negotiate. I persuaded him to lower the price by $500 dollars since I had no desire to keep the helmet. I also was able to change the terms of sale. I told him that I reserve the right to purchase the bike at a lower price or not at all if I was not comfortable with its handling or performance, without him leaving any negative comments on my Ebay profile. This will increase my chances of a future motorcycle purchase should I choose not to acquire this one....
