NBA 666 SEC 3 November 5, 2007 Debriefing Paper 2 I was particularly interested in the “Andre’s Bistro” mediator exercise because it was different than any other case we have done so far in that it included a mediator. The role of an impartial mediator is a very hard one given the information deficit. As our readings have indicated the results of a dispute are generally favored by all parties when a mediator is involved. I agree with this statement in general, however in our dispute neither party was willing to agree to any resolution in the allotted time. Even though a mediator is supposed to be neutral, our mediators found it difficult not to take sides and were very eager to impose a settlement. This may have been due to the small time frame. The mediators tried to understand how the disputants got to the point that they were at in the dispute but found it difficult due to the hectic fashion that the disputants presented their sides. As disputants we were very aggressive and shouted over each other. This is not how a model
