CB205 Case Analysis First National Bank Organizing Case 1. Management has been most effective at laying a foundation to prevail in the NLRB election because of their professionalism, loyalty, and constructive actions. The First National Bank is already viewed as a “prestigious place to work” that has a “pleasant and clean atmosphere” with absurdly high job security in a relatively unsatisfying and unpredictable local job market. The bank already has the upper hand as being one of the best employers in town. Further developing and establishing the hospital-medical plan was their biggest advantage point. Establishing the plan showed the employees that they not only listen to their demands/concerns but they take immediate action to accommodate and satisfy them. It shows that they are responsible and dedicated to work collectively with their employees to maintain job satisfaction and a healthy labor/management relationship. The fact that the union had to withdraw their ULP charge because management had already been working on a health-care program before any Union activity began not only solved the biggest issue for why employees wanted a Union in the first place but showed the employees they are able to achieve employment changes without union representation. Throughout the entire case First National Bank management was very professional, informative, and loyal to its employees. The fact that the question and answer session during the meeting was very informative yet lacked any attempts of coercion strengthened managements relationship with its workers furthering trust and loyalty. The company continued to maintain a positive image to the employees when they did not discharge or discipline any of the workers who were aiding/supporting

the attempt to unionize. The company kept its morals even in times of tension and conflict. 2. For the last 30 days the union organizing campaign should work as hard as they can to increase overall union awareness. The union should increase the size of their organizing committee and have employee representatives that cover all races, ages, religions, and sex. Having a larger and more diverse committee enables the union to reach out and/or influence to more employees. It is necessary to not spend all their time with known union
