2 Journal Entry Week 1 Looking into the lives of the African Americans after slavery was abolished is very interesting. There is a lot of things to learn about them that shocks people today when they find out about lives after. Who did they become and what did they do when they did not have to be bossed around by the whites any longer? Thinking about it one would believe that any African American in their right mind would run for the hills and get as far away from anything dealing with slavery as they can, but in some cases this did not happen at all. Many of them continued to pick crops for the whites on the plantations that they were once at as slaves. Instead of being slaves they were considered as sharecroppers so that they did not have to get paid as much as a white person. There were some African Americans that refused to stick around and they went on to do better things such as moving to the North to work for the railroad or become a nanny, cook,
