COMM 201 – Speech Contest Evaluations Speaker 1: Introduction: The speaker definitely grabbed the attention of the audience at the immediate start of his speech. Furthermore, he established credibility through his vast personal experience in baseball and by conducting detailed research on the topic of Mark McGuire specifically. Moreover, he clearly stated the purpose of the speech. An area that needs improvement involves more clearly stating the three main points of the speech. Body: The speaker used a wide variety of great analogies that furthered understanding of the topic, while simultaneously entertaining the audience and keeping them intrigued. The content was detailed and valuable. Furthermore, the range of statistics and examples used to explain the situation at hand really helped the audience grasp the idea behind and the purpose of the speech. Conclusion: The speaker summed up the points in an interesting fashion and also successfully restated the purpose of the speech, although, as in the introduction, the three main points were not blatantly reviewed. Body/Voice: The speaker limited his movement to transitions which enabled it to enhance his speech, and yet not detract or distract from the actual content. He also had good hand movements and great eye contact. The pace was good. The only area of improvement lies with intonation, of which he could use a little more. Overall: The content of the speech was very good and easy to follow. His citations were good, but could use a little more elaboration, specifically, more of the five double-u’s. about the topic and memorized very significant quotes, which allowed to speech and argument to come across in a stronger and clearer manner. Speaker 2: Introduction: The speaker definitely grabbed the attention of the audience at the immediate start of her speech.
