“Values” I found after Brainstorming: Helping other people Affection (Love and Caring) Conducting Ethical Practices Financial Gain Increasing Intellectual Status Pleasure Criteria I used to decide which of my “values” actually qualified as a value: 1. A value is chosen (freely and from alternatives) AFTER REFLECTION. 2. A value is PRIZED. Our values are things we care about deeply. 3. A value is REPEATED. We act on our values and tend to do those things which we value often and repeatedly. Our values are not activities or behaviors which appear only at Christmas or some other special rare moment. 4. Our values PENETRATE OUR LIVES. We spend money to support our values. We spend time doing the things we value. 5. Finally, we AFFIRM our values. We are proud of what we value and eager to stand up and be counted for them. Values that quality as values and why they do: 1) Helping Other people qualifies as a value because it meets all the criteria above. I chose it AFTER REFLECTION. I AFFIRM it. I am proud whenever I help someone and I am eager to stand up and be counted for it when I do help someone. I like to be singled out and recognized for helping others. Also it is PRIZED. I care about it deeply. It is REPEATED and PENETRATES MY LIFE. I am in a Mentorship for Ithaca High school students throughout the
