BEE 299 Lesson 13, Assignment 1 1. After reading this article, I believe that Hocking's boundaries were right because they were neither too wide nor too narrow. These boundaries are appropriate because he took into account almost all of the aspects of the life cycle of the reusable and disposable cups. When comparing the energy and material used to produce each cup, as well as the energy required to maintain its life cycle, the reusable cups’ energy efficiency in all four countries were very comprehensive. The fact that Hocking actually took into account not just production of the cups, but usage of the cups added to its appropriateness. He talked about multiple usages of these cups and even such simple things as the energy needed to heat the water used when washing cups. I believe that the boundaries considered and the multi-variable calculations are sufficient enough to determine whether a process is energy efficient or not.
