AEM 122 Book Report 04/18/2008 The Lords of the Harvest Book Review The Lords of the Harvest outlines the role of genetic engineering in the development of plants and how this may play a significant role in the future production of foods. The book brings together a variety of viewpoints concerning the issues involved in the bioengineering of food, many of which are large topics of economic debate. It was quite interesting seeing the various sectors of the economy that are being affected or influenced by the engineering of these plants. From the ground up many people have vested interest in the matter; the scientist who develop and discover these genetic make-ups, to the farmers who will grow them, to the people who will consume these new products, all the way to the corporate level. The corporations involved seem almost unscrupulous in their goals of achieving profits. The scientists go back and forth trying to engineer and then reengineer these products better and better.
