Drug lobbyists got prescription drug plan without reducing cost of drugs or shortening patents. Interest groups make policy related PACs focus on winning elections while lobbyists lobby. They promote democracy by repping their members. Pluralism-idea that the more interests represented less chance of domination. In reality upper class interests dominate. Groups work hard to keep members and money and structural leadership are also important. Smaller and mostly college educated as opposed to parties where working class can be represented. Besides for companies and faiths new politics (environment and women’s rights) have also been popular. Internet has made it easier for these groups to get more members. Olsen says collective action nonsense cause of free rider problem (534) especially in anonoymous large groups, where it feels hard to make a difference, and it is hard to punish slackers.
