Vanessa Barela April 5, 2007 Enve 302 Homework #9 1. For a Solids Waste Management Unit (SWMU) release, the concentration limit for chromium for protection of groundwater is 0.05 mg/L. The point of compliance is that a Regional Administrator specifies in the permit for the point of compliance and monitoring requirements. The point of compliance is a vertical surface that is hydraulically down gradient at the limit of the waste area that extends into the aquifer underling the related area. The waste area of management is the limit of the horizontal plane of the area where the waste will be stored during the lifetime of the waste management area. The area includes liners, dikes, or barriers that contain the waste. If there is more than one unit within the facility, then the management area is defined by an imaginary line that separates each unit. The compliance period is specified by the Regional Administrator and the compliance period is equal to the number of years of the active life of the waste management area including the waste management activity before the permit and closing period. The period is also begins when the owner/operator begins monitoring in a compliance program meeting requirements within 264.99. If the owner/operator is in corrective action, then the compliance period is extended until the owner/operator demonstrates that the groundwater protection has not been exceeded for three consecutive years. A Corrective Action Management Unit (CAMU) is not subject to Land Disposal
