Memo To: Dr. Walsh From: Vanessa Barela Date: April 9, 2006 Subject : Differences between marketers and technical communicators There are many differences between marketing and technical communication. Marketers have a desire to sell a product to a target audience. Technical Communicators have to get information to their audience in understandable terms. An example of marketing a product is the Carl’s Jr. Commercial where a super model is riding a mechanical bull while eating a hamburger. The tagline of the commercial said, “Eat right. Exercise more.” There is no nutritional information that is displayed in the commercial or even what the girl is eating. It rather attracts the male audience by using sexual references and catching their attention with a beautiful woman. An example of something like this from the technical communication view is a nutritional menu available at fast food restaurants. Many places such as Mc Donald’s now advertise how healthy they are, they also make pamphlets available with all the
