Memorandum To: Dr. Walsh From: Vanessa Barela- Student Date: May 3, 2006 Subject: Reflection of progress over semester Over the past semester, I believe that I have made progress as a visual communicator in many ways. First, I discovered what Visual Communication was with the first assignment. I discussed how an employee at Compa used Visual Communication with children. She has to create slide shows and handouts for children to use at Sandia Nation Laboratories. In the second assignment, we read Annie Dillard. I wrote about snowflakes and seeing them for the first time in Chama. It was the most amazing visual experience I’d ever had. It was all due to releasing my perceptions of the world before me and allowing my senses to come alive. I believe that I was able to grow from this experience. In the third assignment, we had to discuss how culture changed a person’s perception. I found this very interesting. I was able to realize how much where a person grew up can change the way they view items. For example, with the symbol, I chose I received the
