PAM 2300 Impacts of Abstinence Education on Teen Sexual Activity, Risk of Pregnancy, and Risk of Sexually Transmitted Diseases Abstract: The paper examines the impacts of four abstinence only education programs on adolescent sexual activity and risk of pregnancy and STDs. It utilizes survey data of 2,000 teens who were randomly assigned to either a program group or control group Introduction: Abstinence only sexual education programs have gained increasing support. The programs teach that abstinence is the only certain way to avoid pregnancy and STDs and they cannot provide instruction in or promote use of contraception. 4 programs studied 1.
