The History of Accra, Specifically in the 1980s In Ama Ata Aidoo’s Changes: A Love Story By Kathleen Morgan March 19, 2008 1. Summarize your research findings and explain why you initially thought it was important for our understanding of the novel. The information that I found on Accra in the 1980s was that as a city, it was undergoing an economic growth. This economic growth has made Accra the most modern and wealthiest city in Africa; because the city was experiencing this growth, it was more common to see women, educated women, working in the city. This was not a traditional aspect of Ghana’s culture and was often looked down upon in the ‘80s. This is relevant to the novel because we see Esi going in the modern direction instead of sticking with the traditional lifestyle of Ghana women. 2. What kind of research did you do and why?
