Chapter 3: Excel Functions, Part 1 (of 3) This chapter will be presented in three parts: 1) Introduction to Excel Functions and Working with Dates in Excel 2) IF Function 3) VLOOKUP Function Chapter skills, vocabulary, demonstration notes, will be provided in separate class notes for each part. Chapter review questions will be provided at the end of Part 3 notes. Chapter Skills for Chapter 3, Part 1 Enter functions into Excel worksheet cells. o Enter some function arguments that are cell references o Enter some function arguments that are actual values (not cell references). Explore multiple ways to enter Excel functions into worksheet formulas. o Select Formulas Function Library Insert Function. o Type the name of the function into the formula. o Click on the drop-down arrow on the AutoSum icon. o Click on the fx to the left of the formula bar. o Use the keyboard shortcut Shift+F3 Explore the Insert Function dialog box o Search for a function by name. o Select a category of functions. o Select a function to enter into a formula. Use the Function Argument dialog box to enter function arguments or get more information about a function’s arguments. Use the "Evaluate Formula" formula auditing feature to find the source of syntax errors. o #VALUE! (remember this one for the exam) (input value of the wrong data type) o #NAME? (you should recall this one from Chapter 2) (incorrect spelling of named range or function name) o
