S08 FST 109 1 Homework 4 Each problem is valued at 20 points; one problem will be graded Due May 12 Objectives: (1) construct control charts for variables with the Normal distribution, )(2) construct control charts for attributes using the Binomial and/or Poisson distributions, and (3) design sampling plans for attributes and variables using nomographs. Rdg: Hubbard, Ch. 3 (Control Charts), 5 (Sampling), 8 (Process Capability), 9 (Process Control) Also, Ch. 2 (reinforces L12), Ch 6-7 (very short) For Module 2 exam: Ch. 11 (Net Content Control) will also be included 1. At one inspect-and-pack operation, a control chart is kept in the following manner. Twice each shift a QC technician comes to the inspect-and-pack station. This technician watches as sixty consecutive units arrive to the inspect-and-pack operator. Each time the operator places a part on the rework line, she calls out the reason for rejection. The QC technician records these rejections (see the table below) and plots the total number rejected per sample. a. What type chart is being plotted? b. Calculate the UCL (show your calculations). c.
