It is the degree of acceptability. (Also; ‘Conformance to specifications’) 2. What is total quality management? TQM is a philosophy that sets goals for employees working with management, employees having a voice in the operation and employees who feel that they are a part of the ownership of the firm. It is a comprehensive management system and does not cover quality control only. 3. Why should QA personnel not be placed under the supervision of production management? Since quality personnel always wants implement new strategies to improve productivity it would be difficult- the production personnel would resist- if they were to be under the authority of production management. 4. What are Class I, II, and III recalls? Class I : As a result of a situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a defective product will cause a serious public health hazard including death. Class II : As a result of a situation where the use or exposure to a defective product may cause a temporary adverse health hazard or where a serious adverse public health hazard (death) is remote. Class III : As a result of a neither situation where use of exposure to a defective product will nor cause a public health hazard. 5. What is the difference between quality assurance and quality control? QA is a broad term that includes QC, food safety, public health, technical expertise and legal matters affecting food processors. QC is more manufacturing oriented and check that acceptability of the service or the product. B.
