Lecture Notes ME 1800 C 2007 Prof. Torbjorn Bergstrom WB 107i torbjorn@wpi.edu Objectives Methods Review Course Objectives Understand the objectives of the course Review Lab Safety Rules Know the lab safety rules Review safety concepts Understand rational for lab safety rules Review the Syllabus Understand what it takes to succeed in the course Course Objectives • Introduce concepts in manufacturing process analysis • Enable students to take design concepts from art to part using facilities at WPI ME 1800 –M anufacturing science, prototyping, and CNC Machining Introduce manufacturing and prototype production emphasizing CNC – Solid (CAD) model to a machined part, using CAM software – Understand (machining) process variables and selection Laboratory – Experimental component that associates process variables in machining with performance and machined part quality – Practical component in CAM-CNC utilization. – Support project work that will necessitate fabrication of parts Introduce the manufacturing science and engineering – manufacturing process analysis – engineering design – material science – dimensional and surface metrology.
