Induction o Operon o Operator o Regulatory protein o Effect The lac repressor is an example of an allosteric protein. An allosteric protein has two binding sites for ligands biding at one site alters ability to bind to the other site. Phosphofructoskinase is an allosteric protein o Fructose 1 phosphate fructose 1,6 bisphosphate o ATP is made o The lactose is the inducer. Know what positive and negative control are. o These refer to the regulatory protein. o Positive- when the regulatory protein is active (bound) and promotes transcription o Negative- regulatory protein is active (bound to the regulatory site) and it is inhibiting transcription. o This system we just described would be negative. Repression o Ex. Trp operon The protein we will be following is tyrptophan synthetase A W X Y Tryptophan
