General Chemistry 102a In class notes for November 7, 2007 Chapter 7 OWL due Friday at 11:59pm Chapter 8 OWL (part of Ch. 8) due before exam Exam #3 o 7-9pm one week from tomorrow We will not cover Chromotography in Ch.7 Last lecture (this is the lecture I missed) o Calcs of K or equilibrium amounts (RICE tables) o Q the reaction quotient Today o LeChatleir’s Principle o Start Chapter 8 Le Chatleir’s Prinicple o An equilibrium that is subject to stress will react in a way that counteracts the stress o We will come across three catagories: Change amount of reactants/products Change volume (gases) Change temperature o Changes in reactants/products See A for reaction Since K is less than one, it wil favor the __________(reactants?) [ ][ ]= alkene alcohol K We have to replace the things we took. The reaction “shifts to the right” to replace lost product. When you lose product, Q will become < K
