Vivi Hsu ENG102 1. For sure this book is a tragedy. It talks about the death of Hatan’s Mather, uncle and Manca. On page 13, “. ..how all that remains of a man is the phosphorus for a box of matches or the iron for a noose- worthy nail”, page 49, “his body running over the linoleum like an overripe Camembert . .. humbly and quietly I scraped up the remains of his remains. Also this book expresses the tragedy that happens to the whole country, or whole generation. Such as page 69, he saw the new era workers destroy books with no feeling for what the book might mean, and the innocent children are encouraged to tear the books, “the heavens may be far from humane, but I’d had about all I could take”. 2. This book is also a comedy; it made me laugh and smile. Somehow the hilarious things are mixed with some tragedy. Such as on page 28,”she splashed and splattered the dancers with centrifugal force of her ribbons, and from that day on they called her Shithead Manca. It’s so funny but the same time I feel bad
