AEM 323 Managerial Accounting Project #1- Financial Statement Analysis Spring 2008 Introduction “You, and a group of your co-workers, have recently been hired as finance analyst interns for an investment company. The company is interested in acquiring investments in quality companies in a range of industry sectors. They have determined which sectors and have boiled the possibilities down to two companies within each industry sector. It is your and your partner’s job to analyze each company in your assigned industry, then make and justify a rationale for choosing the right company to invest in. Furthermore, only the interns with the best teamwork, quality research and analysis, compelling arguments and great final report presentation will be offered full time positions upon graduation.” The purpose of this project is to allow students to demonstrate what they have learned to date regarding financial statements in general and financial statement analysis specifically. This is meant to tie together much of what you have learned. I am hoping the depth and scope of the project will provide discussion points and opportunities you can take forward to interviews for both internships and full time job opportunities. Structure This project will be administered within your section. Your TA will assign teams of two individuals within your section. Assignments will be done alphabetically and at the TA’s discretion. These teams will be assigned two companies within a particular industry. Each team member will be responsible for the evaluation of one of the companies for the “individual” portion of the project and the team will work together to complete the “group” portion. Do not ask your TA to change the team assignments or the industry you are assigned! Each TA for the class has been assigned one industry and will be responsible for the grading of all of those projects… meaning your TA will not necessarily be grading your particular project.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
