Derrick Palecek GEOG 30 02/15/08 In the article, “Why tropical forests fall,” Steve Curwood opens up the discussion of tropical forests and climate disruption with some great statistics . Some of the statistics he points out are that tropical forests cover seven percent of the earth and that the cutting and burning of forests causes about 20% of the worlds gas emissions . The article continues with Ingrid Lobet and Nobel Laureate Wangari Maathai further conversing about the topic . Cutting down the rainforest is a very concerning issue in the society

Agriculture is mostly responsible for the deforestation, so they can grow more food . I personally think that tearing down tropical forest is not very good . It ruins some of the most beautiful and remote areas of the Earth . One day, I hope to travel to see these stunning rain forests, and all I can do is hope they are still there ....
